It must be hard to make ends meet for an £80+K a year train driver or a £35+k a year train staff. Platform staff average salary £48K
Starting salaries may not be all that but the overtime and add ons make it a lucrative piece of work.
The RMT should be run out of town, bastards!!

Someone on here once posted how when they lived in France, whenever the transport staff wanted to go on strike or do industrial action, they'd do something like set all the ticket barriers to open first and run enough trains in rush hour etc to give everyone a free ride.

Gets the public on-side, which tbh is really important.

Just downing tools leaving millions in the shit is terrible PR and always has been, dunno why transport union bosses don't understand this.

Other than that, personally, I'm fully on Witham's side. Good on ya

I have worked on railways since 89

It is a great career to have

Drivers are on 50k plus (about time we went automated like the rest of the world)

Signaling managers 150k plus

It isn't hard work, shifts are a bugger but when you do get promoted or further qualified you don't even have that issue

Money for old rope as my old nan used to say

Actually 1% of the individuals doesn't equate to 1% of the time given that people tend to move through transit systems somewhat concurrently... 🤓

What COYI wants everyone to read into his comments...

"He must be a self made high net worth individual fed up with paying high tax to subsidise people with low ambition"

What everyone actually reads...

"He is one thick transparent cunt, with very little self-awareness or intellectual capacity"

'Unfortunately the other 1% are in no way shape or form ‘easy’. Anything from aggressive drunks to suicidal people are all part of railway life and are a far greater occurrence than you’d imagine.'

Well based on what you've said i expect it happens around errrrrm (adds up on fingers)....1% of the time?

Only in your opinion is it "taking the piss". The executive probably had performance targets to achieve in order to earn the bonus, which would have been approved by an independent remuneration committee. Very few bonuses are handed out in a non-performance related manner.

But carry on whining about how unfair your lot in life is while threatening to go on strike like the 1970's style dinosaur you and your union comrades are.

Some people are so selfish and self-centred one has to wonder how they get accepted at ANY level of society.

In many cases their wives seem to have mugged them off big time and probably deservedly so.

There will be a period of at least 10 - 15 years when a breadwinner simply cannot up sticks, get on their bike (or e-scooter), and move as they have kids settled at school - maybe more than one - and those kids have their own social networks growing as a normal part of their (not your) childhood.

These are not things that can be cast aside as irrelevances.

Absolutely no gripe with his wage whatsoever.

But a condescending letter from about there being no extra money for staff earning 16k a year but then accepting a 38k bonus is taking the piss.

"And they were told there was no money in the pot by someone who earns near 300k a year and received a 38k bonus this year."

A typical trade unionist comment. Jealous and bitter towards those who have worked hard, climbed the corporate ladder and command a higher earning job than them.

If you want better pay and conditions, maybe move jobs or maybe you should have studied harder at school. This contempt for success is what winds me up about socialists and trade unions. Get on your bike and get a better job, and stop whining and threatening to strike, son!

Some very fair comments in here folks, I appreciate your patience and I genuinely apologise if there is any ballsing up of anyone’s plans.
I hope it doesn’t come to it.

I’ll keep you posted on any developments I hear about 👍

Just seen it's after the jubilee weekend, so scrap that last bit I wrote.

Strike as much as you want.

I don't think asking for a 10% rise is outrageous, especially if your pay has been frozen for 3 years. Anything less than that wouldn't be a pay rise when you take into account inflation/CPI rates/etc.

But whoever's idea it was to strike the jubilee weekend needs shooting. You won't get much support from doing that.

Wish my toc paid me that.
You can earn 80k if you work every hour complying to hidden 18 regs (google it) but its an antisocial job as it is let alone spending every working hour at work.
Few drivers do this usually to try to save a house deposit but generally dont last long in the job.

Best of luck, mate.

If the opening gambit is 10% I expect any settlement to be about 4.5%, allowing the fat casts to smile that vacuous chubby smile of "victory" that only fat cats can manage.

Personally, I think all management salaries should contain at least 80% performance related pay; in the railways it's easy - number of passenger journey/miles made each day.

No reason management shouldn't share in the glory of success.

Thanks mate, but just to clarify it’s not a Payrise under inflation. It’s nothing at all after a 3 year freeze.

Fingers crossed any action doesn’t affect your journey mate 👍

I've organised rail tickets for a weekend away for a football team in June but Withamexile you have our support. There's no reason why you or anyone else should be docile and accept a pay rise below inflation. And well done the RMT for looking after its members. That's what unions are for.

😂 I have no problem with any conflicting point of view. It is his right as is mine to vote to strike.

It is not a race to the bottom though, you should all have help in this current climate,

Obviously, you work for a train operator, not NR

To be honest it's not an easy job with all the things that can go wrong. I know from working on the track how unaware of the dangers most people are messing around on platforms or kids getting on the track
